09.24.07 | Uptown Goes Downtown Tonight
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 12, 2007

Mad Iris Music and By the Bay Productions are pleased to announce:

"Uptown Goes Downtown Tonight", and magic happens when roots/blues diva Rita Chiarelli joins forces with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra www.tbso.ca is the only professional orchestra located between Toronto and Winnipeg and is one of Ontario's best kept secrets! Rita Chiarelli (www.ritachiarelli.com ) has been called the "Goddess of the Blues" by CBC's Shelagh Rogers. Together they make beautiful music and they’re going to record it.

Building on a highly successful cabaret show last season featuring Rita Chiarelli with the TBSO, the recording of Uptown Goes Downtown Tonight will include 11 of Chiarelli's songs. Arranger Joe Phillips has charted Rita’s songs for the symphony and producer Keith Horner will fly up to Thunder Bay from Toronto to oversee the production of the album. Rita's three octave voice will be highlighted; but you’ve never heard her with a back up band like this one!

Following three days of recording at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium, Rita Chiarelli and the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert at 8 p.m. on Wednesday November 14th at the TBCA. The evening will include the songs from the album and an additional classical repertoire chosen by resident conductor Jason Caslor, who will be wielding the baton throughout this project.

For more information or to arrange a media interview with Rita contact Liz Harvey-Foulds, By the Bay Productions 807-886-9910 or lizharvey@tbaytel.net

Rita's interview with Jeff Goodes on CBC's Fresh Air and one of the songs (a version recorded during rehearsal) can be heard on Rita’s website.

Tickets are available for the concert by calling the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium 1-800-684-4444 or visiting their website www.tbca.com. To order an advance copy of the CD visit Rita’s on-line store or call the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra office at 807-474-2284 .

03.18.07 | Press Release: Way Out West Tour '07
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MARCH 15 /07

Mad Iris Records & By the Bay Productions announce Rita Chiarelli’s upcoming WAY OUT WEST TOUR 2007 :

From March 23 – April 31 Rita Chiarelli (along with “Papa” John King on guitars and Joe Phillips on stand up bass) will bring her inimitable and eclectic repertoire of original tunes, blues standards and Italian folk songs to audiences “out west”. Rita puts on a show that is not to be missed! Her live stage show is riveting. Often bringing her audience to tears; she elicits amazement at the vocal acrobatics she makes sound so easy with her soaring three octave voice, and laughter – for the stories she tells are as entertaining as the songs she sings…

A recent review summed it up this way “Rita Chiarelli has a voice that can growl at her demons or soar with the angels, a gift for lyric, an ear for melody and the heart to combine all three into an unforgettable performance”. In a special two hour segment of CBC Radio’s “Fresh Air” Rita Chiarelli’s new CD, “CUORE…. The Italian Sessions”, was identified as one of thirteen Top Music Picks for 2006. Between 7:00 and 9:00 am on New Year’s Eve host Jeff Goodes and CBC Music Reviewer Mark Rheaume played a track from each of the thirteen selected artists. "Cuore " means "Heart" in Italian - and that is just what this magical night's performance will consist of!

Singer -songwriter Rita Chiarelli is very well-known as "The Canadian Goddess of the Blues " (Shelagh Rogers of CBC Radio - listen in on November 7 or 8th for Rita talking with Shelagh on Sounds Like Canada ) ....but what many do not know about Rita is that she is a first generation Canadian, and has always had a strong alliance with the music of her Italian parents' homeland.

Rita's most recent recording and touring project, Cuore: The Italian Sessions is a collection of wonderful music from the Roman and Neopolitan regions that Rita remembers singing within her family. These old folk songs have incredible emotional impact, especially when delivered by Rita's amazing three octave voice - even for those who do not understand Italian! Rita will be backed by the exceptional George Koller on bass, John King on guitars, and Damon Dowbak, mandolin.

Of special interest will be the fine selection of italian wines that will be available this evening, by the bottle or glass! Wine experts will be on hand to help guide your selection.

Black Fly Jam is proud to be supported in part for this event by The Water Tower Inn, Lucidia Studios Ltd., TD Canada Trust and other community partners soon to be announced.
