My visit back to the Big House | 12.11.11 On October 31, 2011 I screened our documentary Music From The Big House at Angola Penitentiary for the first time since we shot the film there. I was very nervous about what the inmates would think of the film. At the end of the screening, as I walked up to the front of the room I was overwhelmed as the inmates stood up and applauded. I was so happy to hear that they loved it and thought it was the most honest film representation of themselves that anyone had done on them. The screening ended with a big group hug with 'Miss Rita' and the guys. The day before I had the honour of being invited to attend the Angola Rodeo...a world famous rodeo performed by the inmates in a jam-packed stadium of 10,000 visitors from all over the world who come in to enjoy this first-class rodeo weekend. It was another memorable visit to Angola and I left with a full heart and the knowledge that that Music From The Big House had come full circle.
